Is everyone ready for the 4th? I don’t know about you guys, but I sure could use a good explosives show right about now. There’s just something about the holiday that makes the fact that it’s 91 thousand degrees outside much more bearable. I even braved the intense summer heat to give my old glider bench a little makeover.
The bench was in desperate need of a paint job after years spent outside, unprotected.
I had a little bit of black exterior paint leftover from painting our house, so I just used it on the bench. I used a small paint roller on all of the flat surfaces and then used a paintbrush for the rest.
While I was at it, I went ahead and painted the bird house and side table too.
This little afternoon project instantly made the yard feel much prettier. I don’t know why I didn’t paint it sooner.
I’m trying to decide if I should put some sort of rock or bark chips under the bench. If you have an idea, please share in the comments.
Our back yard is seems to constantly need attention in one way or another, but it’s coming along nicely.
Thank you all for reading. I wish you a happy and safe 4th of July!
“My Creed” by Dean Alfange
I do not choose to be a common man. It is my right to be uncommon—if I can. I seek opportunity—not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me. I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia. I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat. It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think and act for myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations, and to face the world boldly and say, this I have done. All this is what it means to be an American.
